Date: 24/11/11
Speaker: Shanavas MS
Topic: Product design & entrepreneurship

Mr Shanavs MS is from the first batch of CPDM (1997-99), He is presently
director of Tycka Design Pvt Ltd. He has worked with Featherlite Office
Systems Pvt Ltd and General Electric as industrial designer. Tycka Design
Pvt Ltd was established in 2004, delivering end to end business solutions
from strategy to design to manufacturing.

This was fourth event of Design Dose after two talks and one workshop. Mr Shanavas was accompanied by his colleague and another CPDM alumni Mr Amandeep Singh. We have been hearing about Tycka design about their excellency in industrial design and Mr Shanavas proved it with impressive flash presentation with lot of animations. He must have spent lot of time in making that presentation. Highlights of his talks were as following:
  • We must talk to people about ideas and views. More we talk, more we learn from others and we can improve our ideas.
  • Drive your passion. Go for the thing which comes to you naturally.
  • Listen more than talk. Positive critic should always be welcomed and analyzed to improve design.
  •  Design thinking. He explained design thinking is about constantly analyzing the problem with empathy and developing solution for the problem. He explained that design thinking has become culture in all big innovation centers of major companies.
  • Design thinking starts from our daily life and a designer must be sensitive to the problems and should look for the solutions rather 'adjusting'.
  • Must think big and always try to get big clients to grow.
  • He also talked about design philosophy which they use at Tycka design in which they step back and find the root cause of the problem before looking for the solutions.
Another lively and interactive talk ends with question answer session.

Above content is summarized from my notes and memory which may deviate from speaker's personal view.
